Nigel Howard Adkins (born 11 March 1965) is an English professional football manager and former footballer and physiotherapist. He was most recently the manager and technical director at Tranmere Rovers. Adkins played as a goalkeeper for Tranmere Rovers and Wigan Athletic. He finished his playing career and began his managerial career at Welsh club Bangor City before joining Scunthorpe United's backroom staff. As the club's physio, Adkins was appointed as caretaker manager before receiving the job permanently. He led the club to the League One title in 2006–07. However, the club were relegated from the Championship the following season but would return the following season after winning the 2009 play-off final. He also led Scunthorpe to the 2009 Football League Trophy final that season. After managing to keep Scunthorpe in the Championship, he joined League One club Southampton. He led the club to two successive promotions as runners-up, reaching the Premier League. Wikipedia text is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License - Full article
