Lautaro Javier Martínez (born 22 August 1997) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a striker for Serie A club Inter Milan, which he captains, and the Argentina national team. Widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world, Martínez is known for his work rate, positioning inside the box, link play, and finishing.
Martínez began his career in his native Argentina, where he made his senior debut in 2015 with Racing Club. There he spent four seasons and represented the club in the league and Copa Libertadores, scoring 28 goals in 60 appearances. In 2018, he joined Inter, where he won two league titles, the latter of which coming after being named the Serie A Most Valuable Player and finishing the campaign as its top scorer. Martínez additionally lifted two Coppa Italias with Inter, and reached the final of the UEFA Europa League in 2020 and the UEFA Champions League in 2023.
Martínez also previously represented Argentina at various youth levels, and competed at the 2017 South American U-20 Championship and 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He made his senior international debut in 2018, and played for the senior squad at the Copa América in 2019, helping his team to a third-place finish, and the 2021 edition of the tournament, which they won. At the 2024 Copa América, Martínez finished as the top scorer of the tournament with five goals, including the only one in the final against Colombia, as Argentina won a second consecutive title.
