This was a critical stage of the match and would have put Southampton 1 up.
Mistakes like this cannot be tolerated in the professional gam. These officials are paid good money and are required to get there decisions right.
Linesmen should perhaps just go back to making judgements on throw ins and let TVs replays be used to allow the referee to judge offsides. It works in rugby with out major hold ups . It s too important to get wrong and the reputation of the game is at stake.
