The width of 4-4-1 is covered by the two outside midfielders, two of the three defenders can easily pick up the forward, and the remaining players are well distributed on the field for central attack. In case of an opposing 4-3-2, 5-3-1, or 4-2-3, attacking wide will cause the opposing team some real damage. I have played three years of club under this formation as either side winger; this formation has never allowed the other teams to recover.
