| 11-Jul-07 04:49 riostrioff | | | typical argentine formation since 80s.
focus of the formation is the CAM - enganche.
enganche provide lateral support to other 4 offensive players. create routes for the ball to move forward through series of one touch passes.
the fullback(s) in 4-4-2 diamond must push for width. as the offensive players are usually driven by enganche into concentration, and large portion of the midfield would not be left uncovered. |

| 22-Aug-07 23:43 eugene kim | | | a great formation for teams with 3 hardworking midfielders and 1 outstanding playmaker (for example, Werder Bremen use Baumann/Frings/Borowski, and Diego as the playmaker). AC Milan have used a version of this formation, under Ancelotti, with Rui Costa or Kaka as the playmaker, and 3 midfielders more withdrawn (eg. Pirlo, Gattuso, Seedorf). | | | |

| 27-Nov-09 14:43 guest 117.254.9.208 | | | actually this lineup is very flexible can be converted from a very defensive formation to a good attacking it is also a 4-4-2 in a sense because when the play is one zone the other two from the front two are free and it is similar to 4-4-2 so its up to players and managers when to play 4-3-1-2 or classic 4-4-2 | | | |

| 06-Apr-10 21:31 F Al Manamah | | | Real Madrid currently use this formation, with a midfield trio of Lass - Xabi - Granero. VDV or Kaka play in the hole, right behind Ronaldo and Higuain. Ronaldo drifts to the left and Higuain drifts to the right. Granero and VDV are free role playmakers but have strict defensive duties. Lass can be seen covering for the attacking Sergio Ramos. Xabi Alonso is the midfield general who dictates the play deep from midfield.. Its usually used for coaches who have to forwards who tend to drift out wide rather than play central roles, and its perfect for having a player as a trequartista and a deep lying playmaker. | | | |

| 30-May-12 17:51 Adam Pahang | | | Ac Milan manager Allegri like to use this tactic. His Ac Milan different between Ancelotti s Ac Milan. Allegri s Ac Milan midfielder play too defensive, all his midfield player can be consider all defensive midfield. | | | |

| 12-Aug-12 19:47 Iker | | | Suits for Italian style of play. Main requirement of this formation is one outstanding playmaker and two wingbacks who can not only defend well but provide width in attack too. Provides solid 7-men defence(according to tactics and stradegy used)and contracted offence. CAM should be good playmaker as well as finisher. | | | |

| 28-Jan-13 11:26 Jake Hammat Havering | | | This formation is like any formation, you can use it as a very defensive way of playing or use this formation in a attacking way of playing. In this formation, this is lacking a lot of width so therefore the left and right back should push foward as wingers. The 2 strikers and the attacking midfileder should be very versatile and change positions all the time. This will confuse the opposition and create space 10x easier. Overall this foramtion is one of my personal favourites and should be used to play good, short, attractive football. Any thing defensive or long ball should not be used, otherwise it doesn t work. | | | |

| 06-Nov-17 11:35 guest 93.143.40.93 | | | A variant of the diamond 442, the three midfielders pack the center when defending and give width in attack, the center midfield is usually more a playmaker then a destroyer (unlike a true diamond), the formation creativity heavily depends on the attacking midfielder that has a more of a free role then in a classic diamond, with the two attackers packing the center to overload centrebacks instead of drifting wide.
Unlike the classic diamond, the fullbacks generally stay in the midfield wide areas to allow the two of wider center mids to drift into wide attacking positions and provide width.
Very Argentine but also used extensively by Italian clubs as well. | | | |

| 03-Feb-22 17:04 guest 102.23.96.11 | | | It s a nice formation, Zidane used it against Liverpool in the champions League final. The one midfielder behind the two strikers serves as the link between the midfield and attack. He must be a very good passer. Additionally, using this formation would require that the fullbacks and midfield take good crosses, as having two dominantly forward strikers would mean that they would expect many balls to come meet them in the eighteen. The two strikers also have to be fast, setting up good communication and movement with eachother and the midfield (especially the number 10 player behind them). In all, the quality of the players at one s disposal should ultimately determine whether to use such formation or not. | | | |
